The Run of Show

A simple ninety-minute evening, paced so you can linger after the last round.

Arrive any time after 5:00 PM. The first round begins promptly at 5:30, so plan to be seated by then. We always end on time — trivia wraps by 7:00 — but the room stays open for another half hour for hugs, hellos, and a slow walk to the door.

If you're running late: don't worry. We'll get you to a table.

  1. 5:00 PM

    Doors open · check-in

Pick up your name card, find your team table, and grab a welcome drink. Solo guests are paired into teams here — say hello to your hosts.

  2. 5:15 PM

    Mingle & settle in

Take a slow lap. Browse the archive wall of past years. The room is warm and the seating is open — nobody is alone unless they want to be.

  3. 5:30 PM

    Round one begins

Opening remarks from Liberation in Action, then straight into the questions. Pens and answer cards are already on the table.

  4. 6:05 PM

    Intermission

A short pause between rounds. Stretch, refill, swap a story with the next table over. Music up, lights warm.

  5. 6:20 PM

Final rounds & the lightning round

The hardest, the funniest, and the round we save for last — a small surprise, plus the year's signature category.

  6. 6:55 PM

    Winners & the toast

Scores called out, winners crowned, and a toast to the women being remembered this year. A short closing word from our host.

  7. 7:00 PM

Doors stay open for another 30

Trivia is over but the room isn't. Stay for a bit if you'd like. Photos, conversation, and a quiet goodbye.

The Venue

A neighborhood room in Brookland — small enough to feel like home.

We're hosted in the heart of Northeast DC, a short walk from the Brookland-CUA Metro and a few blocks from the Monroe Street Market. The space is single-level, warmly lit, and laid out for tables of six. There's a small lobby for check-in, a coat area near the entrance, and an open kitchen at the back where light refreshments are served.

If you've been with us in past years: yes, this is the same room, refreshed for the tenth anniversary.

Getting Here

Three good ways in — and a few notes for an easy arrival.

01 — By Metro

Red Line · Brookland-CUA.

Step off at Brookland-CUA and head north on Michigan Avenue toward Monroe Street Market. About an eight-minute walk, mostly flat.

  • Last Red Line train south of the venue runs after 11:30 PM on Fridays.
  • From Union Station: 10 minutes by train, no transfers needed.
  • Brookland-CUA station is fully ADA accessible with elevators on both platforms.
02 — By Car

Park on Monroe St or 7th.

Free street parking is generally available along Monroe Street and the surrounding blocks after 5:00 PM. The Monroe Street Market garage is a paid option a block away.

  • Monroe Street Market Garage — 716 Monroe St NE · pay-by-app, ~$3/hour after 5 PM.
  • Street parking is unmetered after 6:30 PM. Always read the posted signs.
  • Rideshare drop-off: front curb of 625 Monroe St NE works well.
03 — On Foot or by Bike

Walkable from the neighborhood.

Brookland, Edgewood, and the CUA campus are all walking distance. Capital Bikeshare has two docks within three blocks.

  • Capital Bikeshare: Monroe St & 7th St NE · 6 docks at venue arrival.
  • Bike racks at the front entrance — bring your own lock.
  • Coat & helmet area available just inside the lobby.
What to Bring

Arrive as you are — we'll take care of the rest.

There's nothing you need to bring except yourself. Pens, answer cards, snacks, drinks, and good company are all provided. If you'd like to come prepared, here's the short list of things past guests have found useful.

Dress is comfortable and unfussy — most folks land somewhere between "Friday after work" and "Sunday best." Wear what feels like you.

A short, friendly list
  • Your phone, on silent — we'll take a group photo around 6:50.
  • A small bill or card if you'd like to add to the donation box at the door.
  • A name you'd like us to remember her by — a question, a story, a thank-you.
  • A friend, a colleague, a daughter, a mother, or no one at all. All welcome.
  • A warm layer for the walk home — March nights in DC are still cool.
Accessibility & Care

A room designed so everyone who wants to be here can be.

Step-free access

One level, no stairs.

The entire venue is on a single floor with a flat threshold at the entrance. A wide center aisle keeps a clear path between the door, the tables, and the restrooms.

Wheelchair-accessible restroom on site. Service animals always welcome.

Sound & light

Soft, not loud.

Trivia is read aloud through a clear-voiced PA. We keep music low between rounds. Lighting is warm and dimmable — never strobed.

Need a printed copy of each round? Ask a host in a cream lanyard — we keep a stack at check-in.

Care & quiet

A quiet corner is always open.

If the room is a lot, there's a small adjoining room set aside as a quiet space — soft seating, low light, and a host nearby if you'd like one.

Gender-inclusive restrooms · nursing room available on request.

Practical Questions

A few quiet details you might be wondering about.

I'm coming alone — will I have somewhere to sit?

Yes. Solo guests are paired into teams at check-in, and you'll be sitting with people by 5:15 PM. We've been doing this for ten years — it's one of our favorite parts of the night.

If you'd rather sit quietly and play along on your own, that's welcome too. Tell a host and we'll seat you with a small group.

Is there food, and do I need to eat beforehand?

We serve light bites and non-alcoholic drinks throughout the evening — think cheese boards, fruit, baked goods, sparkling water, tea, and coffee. It's enough to keep you happy through 7:00 PM, but it's not a sit-down dinner.

Plenty of guests grab dinner together at one of the Brookland spots after the night ends. We'll have a short list at the check-in table.

How early can I arrive?

The doors open at 5:00 PM on the dot. If you arrive a few minutes early, you're welcome to wait in the small lobby — we'll let you in as soon as the room is set.

What if I'm running late?

Come in quietly through the side door — there's a host stationed there until 6:00 PM. You'll be seated between rounds and given the questions you missed.

Can I bring my kids?

This is a grown-up evening, but children twelve and up who'd like to play along with their grown-up's team are warmly welcome. Just let us know on your RSVP so we can save a chair.

Will it be photographed?

One short group photo at 6:50 PM, and a few candid shots earlier in the evening for our archive and social channels. If you'd rather not be photographed, tell a host at check-in and we'll mark your name card.

What's the weather backup plan?

The event is fully indoors and runs rain, shine, or the occasional March snow. In the very rare case of a severe weather closure, we'll email every registered guest by noon on March 8 with a rescheduled date.

Almost there

You know when. You know where. Now save your seat.

Reservations close on March 5 or when we reach capacity, whichever comes first. We always sell out the room — this year more than ever — so grab a seat while there's still one to grab.
